Use Meditation to Inspire Creativity

Ah, the creative process. It can be so rewarding, and yet so stressful. Any artist, writer, or general creator can empathize with the frustration and anxiety that often comes along with developing a new project. When the mind is cluttered, you may find it hard to focus or tap into unique ideas.

If you're finding yourself in a creative rut, you may want to consider meditation. Studies have illustrated the power of meditation over creativity, stating that "certain meditation techniques can promote creative thinking, even if you've never meditated before." This can be especially true for a mala meditation practice or a mindfulness meditation.

Meditation helps to stimulate the neocortex or the part of our brain responsible for spurring creativity. Below the neocortex sits the limbic system, which processes our memories, motivations, and emotions. When we're stressed, we're mostly living in the limbic system area of our brain, and our neocortex is unable to focus on creative thinking. By relaxing the mind, we allow the neocortex to take control.
